“The race is called the Big Pumpkin Run and it’s basically a collaboration with The City of Orange who were so successful with Shannon’s Run,” William Fermo, CEO of 3 Bros Running Company said. “They want to bring us back to do this 5k for them for Octoberfest.”
The event will have two options for runners such as The Big Pumpkin Run 5k and a virtual version of the event. For kids, The Big Pumpkin Kids K will be available so children can run alongside their parents.
William Fermo said the kid’s race received high engagement in the past and he expects the same for this event.
The race will start at the Riverfront Pavilion and the course will take runners alongside sights such as the Stark House, Lutcher Theater, Stark Museum, and the Orange Train Depot Museum on a looped course.
The event will be supporting the Batten Disease Support and Research Foundation.
“Our long-term vision is a world without Batten disease,” 3 Bros Running Company said on their site. “Our mission is to support Batten families, fund and facilitate research and advocate for treatments and a cure. 3 Bros Running Company is happy to support this foundation as one of our friend’s children is affected by this illness. 100 percent of donations will go towards the Batten Disease Support and Research Foundation.”
Even though 3 Bros Running Company is a for-profit organization, they still want to support charities that are important to them and the communities they serve.
“We are a for-profit, but we do want to help charities out by bringing awareness and I think that bringing awareness is sometimes more important than raising the money,” 3 Bros Marketing Director Jeremy Fermo said.
3 Bros Running Company raised $3,000 for the National Brain Cancer Society in honor of Shannon Larson for their last race, Shannon’s Run.
For The Big Pumpkin Run, they have raised $372 as of press time for the Batten Disease Support and Research Foundation.
Jeremy Fermo said they also created content bringing awareness to the disease with one video receiving 82 views on Facebook as of press time and having 8 shares.
Every race that 3 Bros organizes, they connect to a theme. Their last race, Shannon’s Run had a rock theme, but due to this race being in the fall and during Orangetober, this race is centered around fall and pumpkins. 3 Bros also integrated a new challenge, dubbed the “Big Pumpkin Challenge” into all the races.
“Because this is a fall race, there is a pumpkin theme, “Jeremy Fermo said. “We have a big pumpkin, and this is something that we bring around with us everywhere. For this race, we’re going to have three hidden pumpkins on the course for the 5k and they’re going to be put out at different times. Everybody has a chance from the fast runner to the slow runner, to be able to get the pumpkin and carry it to the finish line.”
