Update: The location is set to reopen Nov. 10 according to an handwritten sign on the door of the facility.

The Starbucks located in Gray Library is temporarily closed as the result of an employee testing positive for COVID-19 last week, Jack Spurlock, dining services marketing manager, said. The employee has not been at the location since Wednesday, Spurlock said.

Spurlock sent an email to the UP, Oct. 27, containing the following statement:

“We can confirm that a dining associate at Lamar University tested positive for COVID-19 and is now self-isolating at home. Once notified, we immediately closed the Starbucks location to thoroughly clean, disinfect and sanitize per CDC guidelines. All proper notifications have taken place and we are working with the health department, campus health and safety to determine if the case was contracted outside the workplace. We expect all our associates to be vigilant with safety practices inside work and encourage them to do so outside of work as well. The health and safety of our guests, associates and the entire campus community is our top priority,” he said. Our stringent safety protocols include requiring face coverings, conducting temperature checks and health screenings of our associates prior to entry, enhancing sanitization efforts, contactless payment and practicing social distancing. ”

A re-opening date has not been set at press time.
